monthly update
by Adam on Feb.22, 2010, under poker
So far February is fantastic. I would be super happy to finish every month +6500. I played the recent Sunday Million where 1st place was $1.1 million, but I lost rather early after my AK flopped two pair, while my opponent flopped a straight. Today the $3 rebuy 180s went poorly and the best I did was manage a 3rd. The last two days I have lost back some of my recent winnings, but I think it’s just luck balancing out.
Today lots of players were just gambling and calling any all in I made. These guys just want to gamble and so here I get called by a guy with Q6 for all his chips… which is why playing poker is clearly a game of skill.

Typical donkey that calls off with Q6 suited. There isn’t 1 hand that I would shove back with here that doesn’t have this player beat. He just ran into the very bottom of my range which he happens to be 50/50 versus. And even then, he only wins half the time. Such a terrible play by my opponent, but oh well that’s why I play. Here is my monthly graph:

another great day

Won 2 $3r 180s today and I’m at the final table of another one. So almost a 1k day.
Made a video for my first win and I’ll probably make another later tonight for the 2nd win.
Having a really good month, up 5k already. Hopefully this continues and I finish huge. Will post some graphs at the end of the month.
edit – got 2nd, ending the day up around $1200.
good day

won another $3 rebuy 180man turbo today and also got 8th in a 33 euro tourney for 141 euros, which ended up being ~+$150. The euro tourney was really soft. I’m definitely going to play some more of those. Great structure too for a turbo.
Going to grind a bit more then relax.
another sick day

won around $850 again today. 1st in a $3 rebuy, 2nd in a $12/180 and 3rd in another $3 rebuy 180. Playing sick good and winning big pots in good spots.
I’m going to make a replayer video for the $3 rebuy win. I felt I played this one incredibly well, especially the final table. I completely owned everyone and overcame a small deficit heads up to take it down. The other guy played HU very well until the last two hands, then he seemed to blow up a bit.

Made over $850 today. Tons of deep runs and two 2nd’s and a 3rd in $3 rebuy 180mans and a 4th in a $7.70/180. It would have been nice to win any one of these games, but overall I’m extremely happy with the end result. I have been playing less tables and running way better. Getting the occasional suckout deep in a tournament has such a huge impact on winnings. It seemed all January I got deep and took beats. The past few days I’ve been winning a lot of flips and getting an occasional suckout, so the beats that I do take I don’t even mind.
Up over 2k so far this month
+1k day

Finally had a good day. Got 1st in a $7.70/180 for $370, then made two final tables of $3r/180s, then finished 5th in a $1 turbo rebuy for $602. The $1 rebuy was insane at the end. I was winning tons of coinflips, then lost AK to Q7 (which would be my bane this tournament). Down to 70k chips at 100k/200k blinds I had little hope. Won 78o to get up to 375k. Won 78s to get up to 1.1million. Took the blinds down with A6o and I was back in business.
At the final table, the player who won was a total donk, shoving horrible hands from MP such as 10-2o. She kept getting super low on chips then winning 4-5 hands in a row to get a chiplead, then calling off 3/4th of her stack with a-10, etc. She was terrible.
First hand of the final table I shoved K-10o for 8bbs and won vs. AQ (same guy who beat my AK with Q7 so it seemed karmatic). Up to 4.5million I called an UTG all-in with K-J and he showed K-9. Board came out something like 3-5-7-8-6 to give him a 9 high straight on the river. Later I doubled with KK > JJ. Then with 6 million in chips in the BB I called a shove from the fish woman with Q7suited for 2 million more. Blinds were 200k/400k so it was a gamble fest. She turns over 10-7o! And sucks out
Later after a few guys busted I shoved JJ and the fish lady calls with Q-7o for 70% of her stack! Flop is bad 10-6-2 all hearts. I have one and she has the Q of hearts. turn 6, river K hearts
So frustrating. I’ll make a replayer video of this tournament for Smart Poker Training
The good thing is I’m finally up on the year, and I’m playing great and running pretty good. I have been playing less tables which has had a huge impact on my game. I’m also trying not to play if I’m in a bad mood, not “feeling it”, tired, etc.
