still breaking even
by Adam on Jan.17, 2010, under poker
Well I haven’t had a ton of time to play this weekend, but I did start to win quite a bit on the $12/45’s which I had forgotten about. My strategy in these is probably a lot different from conventional players strategy, which seems to work really well.
jan update

Well I played a few tournaments today. I decided to mix it up and play some lower buy in mtts and also $7.70/180s to get away from the regfests that the $12/180s have become. I finished 4th in a $7.70, cashed in about half the mtts, and got deep in the TLB top 1000 freeroll. The final hand of the freeroll I got it in preflop with AK vs AQ for a 24bb pot but lost on a 5-8-7-4-Q board. So frustrating because I was card dead for the last 5 or so orbits and I had a really nice stack going once we got near the money.
I also took some really lame beats in the $7.70s and mtts. In the $3r I had a great stack but shoved JJ into QQ. It was a really bad shove on my part, but a tough to play hand. A loose opener raised 4x utg+2 and with 5k in the pot and my stack at 23k and my opponents at 25k I decided to shove. I could have tried to play the hand out of position but thought my opponent my have 88, 99, 10-10, AQ, or AK enough of the time to make a shove correct.
Still down ~$500 this month. I’m going to change up my playing schedule to 6:30am to 10:30am each day and work on websites the rest of the day. This should improve my results.
Frustrating start to 2010
by Adam on Jan.06, 2010, under poker
So far this year I am up a whopping $108. After playing hung over and winning a $3 rebuy 180 man, I have pretty much bricked every other 180 man. The best I’ve done is a 4th in a $12 game. I keep losing very standard flip situations, running into aces and not sucking out, or just taking very standard beats. Often my games will start by me easily doubling up, then losing a race or taking a beat, or never getting dealt a playable hand.
So for $12/180s I’m on a big downswing, around 60 buy ins without a win, which is extremely frustrating. I’ve had few final tables because of losing huge flips late in the tourney, and when I’ve gotten to the final table often I’m not winning flips there or taking a beat. I feel like I’m going to win 3 or 4 of these in a short period of time once variance catches up.
Luckily I have been running really well in the $22.44 hyper turbo games. These used to be my bane as I could never run good, but lately I have been 4 tabling them with ease and winning at very high, most likely unsustainable rate.
I’m going to take a bit of a break from playing so much and work more on websites. I will still be playing every weekday, but I am going to try to do a few things differently. For one – I really want to get up and start playing around 6:30am. This will give me a chance to play some different opponents and stay away from some of the good grinders. I will also be able to play a cool tourney I noticed – $33 turbo 500 cap – 3000 chips to start. I took a look at the prize pool and there were about 475 players today and 1st was around $3000, which would be a terrific score.
